This is also why careful measurement of cell voltage is the primary and essential step before assembling lithium batteries. For example, in a battery pack composed of multiple battery cells, if the voltage deviation of one battery cell from the others exceeds 5 millivolts, the battery cell may experience overcharging or undercharging during the charging process. Over time, this not only affects the overall performance of the battery pack, but also significantly shortens its service life.

Consistency of capacity
Secondly, the capacity size between each battery cell should be kept as consistent as possible. In an ideal state, the capacity of each battery cell should be no different, but in actual production and use, it is almost difficult to achieve complete consistency. Therefore, the error value of capacity is usually controlled at around 2% as much as possible. Of course, in a group of batteries, it is acceptable for individual cells to have slightly higher capacity, but in actual use, they should be treated according to the standards of low capacity cells. For example, in a 48 volt battery system consisting of 16 series connected battery cells, where the capacity of 15 cells is basically the same, and the capacity of the 16th cell is slightly higher, the actual available capacity of the entire battery pack should be based on the lower capacity of these 15 cells. Because the current is the same in a series connected battery pack, if charged and discharged according to the standards of high-capacity cells, low capacity cells may be damaged due to excessive charging and discharging, thereby affecting the performance and lifespan of the entire battery pack.
Consistency of internal resistance
The last thing to talk about is internal resistance. The difference in internal resistance between each cell in the battery pack should be minimized, and it is generally appropriate to control it within 15%. The small difference in internal resistance can effectively reduce the imbalance phenomenon of batteries during charging and discharging. A battery pack with good internal resistance consistency can significantly reduce energy loss and heat generation during charging and discharging. Taking the battery pack of electric vehicles as an example, if the internal resistance consistency of the battery cells is poor, during fast charging, the cells with higher internal resistance will generate more heat, which not only reduces charging efficiency, but also may cause safety hazards such as overheating and fire. When the consistency of internal resistance is guaranteed, the charging and discharging efficiency of the battery pack can be improved, and the safety can be greatly enhanced.
